5 Ways to Avoid Back Pain | Jessica's Health Blog

Back painIt seems like almost every one experiences back pain at some point in life. However, with some care and precautions, back pain can be avoided.

There are five important ways to avoid back pain from occurring in future:

1. Good Body Posture: Always make sure your posture is comfortable and upright. Never sleep in a wrong posture, and avoid sitting in slouching posture at work. The same applies when you are relaxing at home on the couch or at the dining table. Even if you have a baby, avoid putting it on your hips and avoid lifting them while you are in standing posture. Always sit or kneel down before lifting your baby to avoid strain on the back. Most importantly, avoid lifting heavy things. If necessary, get yourself a walking stick to help you walk right if you already have back pain.

2. Eat Healthy: You must eat a healthy diet to be at your ideal weight and keep your body healthy. Make sure you consume food with sufficient minerals and vitamins. Make sure that you always have a balanced diet with proteins, carbohydrates, oils and roughage. Sufficient water intake is also important to help avoid back pain. Avoid harmful beverages like alcohol.

3. Exercise Regularly: Sitting too much through the day is one of the main causes of back pain. It is important to exercise regularly. Cardiovascular exercises help keep the heart in a healthy state. A strong heart helps improve blood flow and improves muscle endurance. There are specific spine exercises that help keep the muscles and bones in the back flexed and strong. For example exercises like; the bridge on back, quadruped on hands and knees, plank and one leg balance help improve the back muscles.

4. Be Stress free: It is impossible to avoid stress in life, and it is one of the main causes of back pain. With excessive stress, muscles in various parts of the body get tightened and rigid. While one sleeps, it leads to uncomfortable postures. Moreover, stress affects the role of important glands in the body, such as the adrenal gland. Its secretions get heightened and affect the nervous system, immune system and the heart. Problems with these lead to poor health and problems like fatigue, arthritis and allergies. These indirectly contribute to back pain.

5. Visit the Chiropractor or Physiotherapist: Without realising it we get stressed and our muscles stiffen. Regular visits to the chiropractor or physiotherapist will help with this problem. They can help restore the normal joint positions and relax strained muscles in the spine and the rest of the body.
