South Florida?s Class of 2014 is loaded with elite high school football prospects

This was the class that everyone waited on. Loaded with as much talent as there has ever been in South Florida.

As soon as the ink dried on the papers for the Class of 2013, there was an instant rush to quickly see the Class of 2014. From the first combine and 7-on-7 tryout, it?s easy to see why so many have waited for this group to arrive.

This is easily the deepest class Miami-Dade has ever witnessed ? with as many as 35 top-fight prospects that every college in the country has already started to get serious about.

Never before has this region of the country had running backs who could be among the top 10 nationally. In Sony Michel (Plantation American Heritage), Dalvin Cook and Joseph Yearby (Miami Central), and Brandon Powell (Deerfield), you have elite ball carriers who have already established themselves.

This is also a class that will finally produce an array of quarterbacks. From the run/pass, athletic version such as Treon Harris (Miami Booker T. Washington), Quentin ?Winky?? Flowers (Miami Jackson), Trayon Gray (Carol City), Taron James (Miami Norland) and Alain Eduoard (Hialeah), to the drop-back prospects such as Sean White (Davie University School), Wade Freebeck (Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), Nick Jeanty (Miramar), Hunter Boyett (Miami Westminster Christian) and Peyton Bender (Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons), this is a class that might be the deepest that this area has produced in a long time.

After the top four running backs, there are also difference-makers such as Mardre London (St. Thomas Aquinas), LaKeith Stafford (Norland), LaJuan Hunt (University School), Henry Bussey (Hialeah), Paul Anderson (Hallandale), Lashone Garnett (Miami Southridge), Krondis Larry (Booker T. Washington), Aeron McNeal (Deerfield) and Miramar?s Cameron Rigby.

?I have been watching football prospects in this region for over 30 years and have never been around so much quality depth,?? said Dana Wiley of Prep Films. ?You could see that last year, when these athletes were juniors.??

Colleges also will find program-changers at receiver such as Homestead?s Ermon Lane, Steve Ishmael (North Miami Beach), Tyre Brady (Homestead South Dade), JoJo Robinson (Miami Northwestern), Henderson ?Prince? Gray (Miami Monsignor Pace), Isaiah McKenzie (American Heritage), Cornelius Floyd (Miami Gulliver) and Norland?s Kendrick Edwards.

Offensive linemen are also starting to emerge with University of Miami commitment Trevor Darling (Central), Ryan Crozier (St. Thomas Aquinas), A?lique Terry (Hialeah), Nicholas Linder (St. Thomas Aquinas), Siffo Pierre (Coral Springs Taravella), Erik Lenzen (Cardinal Gibbons), Nigel Kemp (Miramar Everglades), Jakhari Bolton (Miami Killian), Deion Cineus (Miami Beach) and Miami Belen Jesuit?s Jonathan Schultz, who spent last year in Jacksonville.

On defense, the focus - as usual will be in the secondary ? where high-level players such as Nigel Patton (Booker T. Washington), Deatrick Nichols (Central), Quincy Wilson (University School), John Battle IV (Hallandale), Marquese Dudley-Gordon (Weston Cypress Bay), Alshinard Harris (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Carter Jacobs (American Heritage) are among the best anywhere.
