August Vegan Foodie Swap from Sweat Potato Pie ? The Vegan ...

It?s already the end of August (Boo!) but that means it?s time for another vegan food swap recap (yay!).

My package this month was gleefully received from Lauren over at Sweat Potato Pies, a super cute blog that she runs with her sister.

Lauren sent me a bunch of fun goodies I?ve never heard of before including:

Terrapin Ridge Farms Pipin? Hot Mustard ? Mmmm, I looove spicy mustards, can?t wait to crack into this one.

Crofter?s Organic South America Superfruit Spread ? I?m loving this unique blend of fruits, this has become a new favorite in my pb & j?s.

Funky Monkey Pink Pineapple Crunchy Fruit Candy ? Yummy little crunchy freeze dried pineapple bits. So sweet and tasty.

Desert Garden?s Jalapeno Beer Bread ? Beer? Jalapeno? I?m liking this combo, really looking forward to trying out this mix.

New Moon Kitchen ?Mackies? ? A gluten free cookie in one of my favorite flavor combos, chocolate and coconut.?

Ontario Made Citrus Soap

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups homemade by Lauren herself! -?Sadly I didn?t get to try these as the heat got to them before I did, but I?m in luck because she sent the recipe so I can make them myself!

Lauren also asked if I could recommend a few of my favorite cookbooks! As tough as that may be, I think I can try my best and pick a few.

1. Eat, Drink and be Vegan by Dreena Burton ? This has been one of my go to cookbooks since I became vegan. I love how Dreena has come up with a compilation of healthy, flavorful recipes that are quick to make to boot. The hummus chapter is what really won me over with this book, ever since I had the Red Pepper Almond hummus I?ve never been able to go back to ?the traditional stuff. Also, Blackened Tofu!

2. Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz ? Hmmm, what can I say about this book that hasn?t already been said, it?s a must have for every vegan cook! It was officially the first vegan cookbook I ever bought, a good choice if I do say so myself. This book is so versatile, you?ve got your super tasty everyday recipes (like the Pineapple Cashew Quinoa Stir-fry) and your ?I need something fancy to impress the omni parents? recipes (like the?Caramelized Onion,?Butternut Squash?& Chestnut?Casserole). Buy this book and you?re pretty much set (unless you?re a cookbook obsessed weirdo like myself :) )

3. World Vegan Feast by Bryanna Clark Grogan ? Although I?m a fan of all of Bryanna?s books and recipes, I?ve been getting a lot of use out of her newest book recently. Everything I make from this book is like gold, tasty, tasty gold. So many incredible creative and flavorful recipes (hello vegan salmon!) inspired from all over the world. Plus there?s poutine! How can that not win over the heart of any Canadian born vegan.

4. Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites by Celine Steen & Joni Marie Newman ? This is a newer book but there?s no way I could leave this off my list. P and I have been cooking a lot from this one and we have both been in love with everything we?ve tried. If you?re looking for low-fat or super ?healthy? meals then look elsewhere, because this book is filled with comfort food at its finest. Rich, delicious and mouth-watering recipes, perfect for anything you?re craving (no matter if your veg or omni, as P can attest to), like?Roasted Broccotato Soup with Bacon-Flavored Chickpeas and?Chorizo and Potato Lasagna Bake, mmm, thinking about it is making me hungry.

5. Appetite for Reduction by Isa Chandra Moskowitz ? Another Isa book! What can I say? She?s a culinary goddess. To counteract all that comfort food, I like to crack into some of these fantastic recipes. This book is filled with healthy, low-fat recipes that taste really good, and no, I?m not just saying that. The salad section is full of hearty full-meal salads that I can?t get enough of, (the Sanctuary Chef Salad is one of my favs) and I?ve even made most of the side dishes, something I rarely do since I?m usually too lazy but they?re just too good not to make the effort (my mashed potatoes have officially been replaced by Caulipots). I also love how quick the recipes come together and how I can pretty much pick anything and have all the ingredients already in my pantry.

Thanks so much for your package Lauren and I hope my suggestions serve you well!

I sent my parcel to Jill who blogs over at Vegan Cuts, so don?t forget to check out her blog to see what she got.
